SQE1 Preparation (Self-study)
Who is it for?
Candidates with a legal practice background, who prefer self-directed study but with some structure and guidance from an expert SQE tutor to get ready for SQE1.
Course overview
This course is designed for professionals who are already legally qualified in other jurisdictions in the UK or overseas, or barristers wishing to cross-qualify. It’s also suitable if you’ve studied law before and have extensive experience in practice.
This course is designed to help you prepare for the SQE1 assessments flexibly and at your own pace: whether it be 10, 20, 30 or 40 weeks, or whatever suits you best. It provides comprehensive coverage of the 14 areas of law and practice that are examined in the SQE1 assessments:

- Public Law 2 (FLK1)
- Contract Law (FLK1)
- Tort Law (FLK1)
- Legal Services (FLK1)
- Business Law and Practice (FLK1)
- Dispute Resolution (FLK1)

- Trusts Law (FLK2)
- Criminal Law and Practice (FLK2)
- Property Law and Practice (FLK2)
- Wills and the Administration of Estates (FLK2)
- Solicitors Accounts (FLK2)
The rules of taxation will also be covered in their relevant context.
You will receive high-quality, assessment-focused materials, interactive exercises, tests and mock assessments to build and test your knowledge, helping you prepare for SQE1.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however this course is most suitable for:
- those with a qualification as a lawyer in another jurisdiction, or
- a barrister in England and Wales looking to cross qualify.
- those who have studied law before and have extensive practice experience as a paralegal
Please note: in order to qualify as a solicitor, the SRA requires you to have a degree in any subject (or equivalent qualification or work experience).
English language requirements
To study at BPP, it is important that you are able to communicate and engage in English effectively in an academic setting.
If English is not your first language, you will be required to provide proof of your ability across reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English.

Please note that the SQE is an external assessment, the cost of which is not included in your course fee. You will be required to pay £1,888 for the SQE1 assessment.*
