Dentons has announced that Dentons US has officially merged with McKenna Long & Aldridge; an act that secures their place as the largest firm in the world and as an extremely formidable global presence.
Dentons said the merger “brings together the exceptional talent of [the] two firms into one US powerhouse.”
Following its merger with Chinese firm Dacheng in January, which gave them the largest headcount internationally, the absorption of 475 lawyers in the US means that the firm now employs more than 6,600 lawyers worldwide. 1,100 of these are based across its 21 US offices.
This June it was revealed that Dentons was in merger negotiations with 21 firms across the globe.
CEO Elliott Portnoy and chairman Joe Andrew have confirmed that the firm plans to expand in markets where it already has a foothold such as Germany and Spain, and additionally establish a presence in new locations such as Japan and Latin America.
Dentons asserts that the influx of new specialists in almost every field of law will give clients “significantly enhanced service across all sectors and practices”, and state their polycentric approach will allow clients to broker deals and resolve disputes “anywhere in the world.”
