As January draws to a close, the vacation scheme deadlines are about to drop! The deadline is Friday 31 January for vacation schemes with the majority of the UK’s crème-de-la-crème of law firms.
Ah yes, January may have already brought some ups of downs to kick off 2014 with a bang. You may have already run back to the sweet embrace of chocolate, started clocking up your excuses as to why you should give the gym a miss tonight (we know you’ll go tomorrow instead…), and ‘Dry January’ was probably a fleeting fancy. But for any aspiring solicitor who’s serious about their law career, vacation scheme applications shouldn’t be joining the resolutions-fallen-flat list!
In an extremely competitive market for graduate careers in the legal sector, more and more top firms are reinforcing the importance of legal work experience for training contract applications. A vacation scheme will give you between one and three weeks with a firm with the chance to carry out real work, liaise with trainees, associates and partners and get a feel for how a law firm works. It’s one way of making an excellent impression with a recruiter, proving you have what it takes, and even paving the way for a training contract interview!
If you haven’t applied yet, there is still time to squeeze in a couple of quality applications and give yourself a chance to bag a placement. Our Vacation Scheme Deadlines hub gathers the very best vacation scheme opportunities available together for you, so it’s quick and easy to apply.
You can narrow your search down to City firms, US firms, regional firms, international firms and Scottish firms too!
You’ve got until Friday 31 January! Get on it!
