The House of Commons played host to the prestigious Howard League Debating Final earlier this month. The event saw Kaplan Law School BPTC and GDL students battle it out at the debating table. So who triumphed?
The finalists had already seen off their competition through a number of debating rounds before having to think fast in the final showdown to put their arguments together and impress the judging panel.
They were given just 24 hours to prepare their position for the motion, 'This house believes that young adults are being failed by the prison and probation services’.
Andrew Neilson, Director of Campaigns at the Howard League, Simon Spence QC and Edward Bishop QC made up the judging panel. After much deliberation, the winner was announced to be Victoria Shehadah (Kaplan BPTC student) and the runner up was Lorna Badham (Kaplan GDL student). The pair were awarded with sought-after mini-pupillages.
Well done to Victoria and Lorna!
