A recent study has revealed that legal professionals are likely to stay with their employer for longer.
Just 30% say they would start looking for a new job less than three years after starting, meaning that legal professionals are amongst the most loyal groups of employees in the UK. They come in ahead of marketing (65% of which would commence their job search after three years or less) and IT (52%).
When asked for reasons for leaving a job, the survey found that opportunities for career progression was the main reason amongst those in the legal profession. 29% would seek new employment to progress with their career, 18% because of an unsupportive boss and 15% due to a negative salary review.
Colin Loth, Director of Legal Recruitment at Robert Walters, said, “The survey highlights… again that legal professionals are extremely hard working, committed and willing to put in the hours to take a transaction or case over the line. Moreover, compared to other professions, legal specialists are more likely to search out career advancement options internally than jump ship to get ahead.”
The research also revealed that legal specialists are more likely to clock up longer average working weeks. 42% put in 50 hours (or more) per week. This is significantly more than professionals in marketing (21%) or accountancy (30%).
