LPC Applications Down 10%

The number of applications for the legal practice course (LPC) is down 10% compared to 2013.
Figures from the Central Applications Board admissions service show that at the end of June, 4382 applications had been made, compared with 4865 at the same time last year. It marks the second year of decline, as the number of students enrolling on an LPC course fell 8.4% in 2013/14.
The decline could reflect growing realism about the legal job market. Peter Crisp, chief executive of LPC provider BPP Law School, said the number is beginning to reflect more closely the number of training contracts available each year, estimated to be around 4,500.
Completion of the LPC does not guarantee a training contract and the figures suggest students do not wish to spend £12,000 on a course that does not guarantee a training contract.
