UK Firms Expand to Brazil

Written By Billy Sexton, Editor, AllAboutLaw.co.uk

Seven of the top 20 largest UK law firms now have an office in Brazil. Just three had offices there before the country won rights to host the World Cup in 2007, meaning the total number of UK firms with an office in the South American country has more than doubled.

Brazil has almost 850,000 members of the Order of Attorneys of Brazil. In comparison, the UK has 158,000 solicitors on the Law Society roll. Moreover, Brazil has one lawyer for every 233 people, where there is just one lawyer for every 400 people in the UK. Though the Brazilians are more efficient with their lawyers as they are with their silky football skills, UK lawyers earn almost twice as much as their Brazilian counterparts, taking home close to £110,000 compared to just over £60,000.

With £3 billion expected to be produced for Brazil’s economy thanks to the World Cup, lawyers are predicting a 1.5% boost to Brazil’s GDP.
