In recent weeks, US giants such as Shearman & Sterling and Sullivan & Cromwell have announced retention rates for their 2015 London trainees. And it looks like it’s been a good season so far!
Shearman & Sterling will retain 100% of its London trainees after all 13 trainees have accepted positions at the firm. This is a vast increase from last year, which saw only 75% of trainees retained.
Mei Lian, Shearman & Sterling’s Training Principal said: “What is particularly significant about this is that we were able to offer each of them their first choice of practice area on qualification this year”.
Sullivan & Cromwell (four), Weil Gotshal & Manges (nine) and Covington & Burling (four) have each revealed that they too will retain 100% of their trainee cohorts.
At 95% the Latham & Watkins retention rate is lower, but still high, as it retains 20 of its 21 autumn 2015 qualifying trainees. The firm revealed this was because one trainee chose not apply, as the firm offered all other trainees a NQ (newly qualified) role.
So, there we have it guys. So far things are looking great for the 2015 London trainees being employed by those over the pond!
