A selection of changes were made to the QLTS last year, meaning that life has become easier for those who wish to take the assessment. A summary of these changes is provided below:

  1. Candidates wishing to take the QLTS, as long as they are not seeking exemption from a particular part of the assessment, no longer need to attain a Certificate of Eligibiilty from the Solicitors Regulation Authority before the assessments.

  2. Candidates who are not from the EEA/EU will no longer have to provide separate evidence of their profiency of the English Language, as the test will examine this innately.

  3. There will no longer be a need to complete the entire assessment within a five-year period, making life easier for those who are working part-time or in other employment.

  4. There will also no longer be a maximum number of attempts available to a candidate – they may attempt until they are successful.
