The AllAboutLaw perspective on DLA Piper
DLA Piper is a truly multinational law firm with over 90 offices across Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. There are lawyers working from Argentina and Angola to Australia, allowing trainees to learn about how a global law firm operates, as well as the challenges of navigating different legal jurisdictions and time zones. Trainees will be able to meet these lawyers via international seats all over the world, as well as during the London-based induction for trainees worldwide.
You may assume that the firm's multitude of offices means that it focuses on expansion rather than on existing offices. This could not be further from the truth. The firm consistently wins awards for its training contracts, and trainees are “struck by how friendly, collaborative and approachable" employees at the firm are.
Current and past trainees have also praised the hands-on approach of the graduate recruitment team as well as the “culture of the firm,” giving trainees “an engaging environment to work in and opportunities to develop your network.” You will learn from the best of the best, with 1000+ of the firm’s lawyers being leaders in their fields.
DLA Piper is committed to supporting their community, with all lawyers and trainees completing at least 20 to 50 pro bono hours every year, with many completing more. The firm has two main goals in developing their pro bono initiatives, dedicated to resolving global issues and learning from the challenges, working with individuals, NGOs, and UN agencies to promote access to justice, and good governance. Past pro bono projects include representing over 50 asylum seekers living in the Napier Barracks and working with Space for Giants to protect landscapes and elephants in Africa. DLA Piper is also committed to environmental sustainability, embedded within the firm through their Global Sustainability Initiative which monitors progress and manages the environmental impact of their business.
