Training Contract
The training contract at Clyde & Co offers early responsibility and opportunities to develop skills through close personal supervision and a wide range of training courses. Trainees undertake four six-month seats, covering both contentious and transactional work. They may also choose to be seconded to one of the firm's international offices or have the opportunity to undertake a client secondment. The combination of a wide variety of practice areas, local offices, international and client opportunities means that trainees have the chance to have a broad range of exposure to the firm's whole network.
Before their training begins, trainees receive support from the graduate team, including one-to-one sessions to discuss their career preferences, workshops, presentations and training sessions at the firm's offices, an SQE mentoring programme and social events.
Throughout their training contract, trainees have the opportunity to experience various legal, technical and business-focused training sessions. They also have access to MyDevelopment, an online training resource to support their personal and professional development, and to an extensive training library.
Clyde & Co is committed to helping trainees succeed within their role, fulfil their potential and progress their career.
Vacation Scheme
Clyde & Co offers Vacation Schemes during the Summer in London and Scotland. Once applications close, digital assessment scores are reviewed, and successful candidates are invited to a virtual assessment centre. As part of the assessment centre, candidates undertake a written exercise, group exercise, role play and a strengths-based interview with a Legal Director and Senior Associate
Attendees spend one to two weeks sitting in one of the firm's departments. At the point of offer, vacation schemers rank three preferences detailing where they would like to sit over the two weeks. Trainees mentioned that the first few days “is spent getting to know the ins and outs of the department.” Vacation scheme students are allocated a supervisor, a trainee buddy and an associate mentor. They also have the opportunity to network across the firm as a variety of social events take place; in the past they've included the underground cookery school, go-carting and cocktail making.
