It’s not uncommon for former lawyers to pursue a career in politics. Just look at Tony Blair! He started off as a barrister of Lincoln’s Inn.

After the Conservative victory, there are a few lawyers in David Cameron’s cabinet too. But just who exactly are they?

Nicky Morgan, the minister for Women and Equalities, was previously a corporate lawyer at Travers Smith, specialising in mergers and acquisitions. Theresa Villiers, the Northern Ireland secretary, was also a barrister before entering the political fray.

Anna Soubry, minister for Small Business graduated with a law degree but chose to initially follow a career in journalism.

There are fewer former lawyers in the cabinet than there are bankers, but it nevertheless shows how the skills you gain as a lawyer are transferable.
