A survey conducted by legal and compliance recruiter Laurence Simons shows there has been an increase of £5000 (5%) in lawyers’ salaries in the past year.
The increase means that the average UK lawyer’s salary is now up to a smooth £108,690 – up from £103,450 in 2012/13.
This salary boost is accompanied by a fall in bonuses. They fell from 34% of salary last year to 29% of salary this year; that’s a drop from £35,590 to £31,495. This means that the total cash you’ll clock up as a qualified lawyer in a year is currently an average of a rather tasty £140,148.
Chris Cayley, EMEA Managing Director at Laurence Simons said: “Rising salaries are a sign that the legal sector has returned to stability after a tough period. We saw green shoots in 2012/13, with higher bonuses showing signs of tentative confidence. Salary increases demonstrate long term commitment to staff and confidence that prospects for 2014 are better.”
