A baseball fan has decided to file a $10 million lawsuit against broadcaster ESPN.
Andrew Rector claims that commentators launched an “unending verbal tirade” against him as he fell asleep through a baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.
The lawsuit also claims the commentators launched an “avalanche of disparaging words” and that they had made “false statements” suggesting he was “not worthy” to be a Yankees fan and was “a fatty cow that need two seats at all time and represent symbol of failure.”
Rector said that the comments had led to him suffering “substantial injury” to his “character and reputation,” as well as “mental anguish, loss of future income and loss of earning capacity.”
However, a video of the event does not show the two commentators saying these comments. Additionally, the lawsuit filed was full of bad grammar and included typos. Rector’s mother called the commentators “idiots” and his lawyer said, “We’ll settle this in court.”
ESPN refuted the claims, deeming them “wholly without merit.”
