Aspiring barristers listen up, because the Bar Council is about to join forces with the Chancery Bar Association to hold a joint bar fair!
The first ever Bar Council Pupillage Fair will take place on the 21 November 2015 at the Lincoln’s Inn. The fair is open to all bar chambers wanting to recruit, regardless of their specialisms. So, for anyone serious about becoming a barrister this is the perfect opportunity to explore the variety that’s out there.
The fair will take place at Lincoln’s Inn and aims to be a multifaceted hub of information, including careers advice on how to become a barrister, on what the qualities of a successful candidate are, and the ins and outs of the profession.
There will be representatives who you can ask questions, information workshops and the chance to talk to people who have been on a pupillage or who can advise you on the best way to start your career at the bar. All the people who have a wealth of knowledge about becoming a barrister will be ‘under one roof’.
Philip Robertson, Director of Policy at the Bar Council, said: “Students thinking about a career as a barrister can use the fair as an opportunity to find out more and help them decide whether the Bar is the path they wish to go down and whether particular specialisms at the Bar are of interest to them.
Due to joining forces with the Chancery Bar this year, there will be a healthy representation from Chancery sets as well as exhibition stands, information and workshops tailored for all specialist areas.”
Robertson continued to elaborate upon the benefit of the fair not only for students but also for chambers, who will have access to a larger, more diverse pool of potential recruits.
He said: “The fair is an excellent platform for students to meet chambers and course providers face to face, as well as a chance for chambers to widen their net in the search for potential talent.
If chambers are serious about opening up pupillages to tap into a larger talent pool, the Bar Council Pupillage Fair is an ideal opportunity for them to do that. The fair also sends a clear signal to students that the Bar is open to all as a career.”
It’s free, but you have to book your place.
