It’s June, and you know what that means… training contract applications are open! And we all know what training contracts are, don’t we? That’s right; the final hurdle to becoming a solicitor!

The majority of law firms will now be accepting applications for their 2017 intake. So if you’re a second year law student or a final year non-law student (or older), get your applications started. There’s plenty of time to go before the 31 July deadline, but you should spend a lot of time tailoring your application to each firm that you apply to! You can check out which firms have opportunities by checking out our training contract hub.

Training contracts are a period of training which all solicitors need to undertake before they officially qualify. You’ll do a number of seats in a variety of law areas, which could include contract law, TMT law or intellectual property law! You’ll need to have passed the LPC before starting your training contract, but you will get paid for (and a very pretty penny at that, might I add). Training contracts usually take two years to complete.

As training contracts are very competitive, we want to help you make the most competitive application possible. That’s why we have in-depth advice the training contract application process and application tips too!

Our top tip is that quality always trumps quantity. Don’t send out 50 applications that lack personality, effort and are clearly duplicated. We recommend sending off ten tailored applications to firms that you have thoroughly researched and can see yourself working at.

Don’t be disheartened by rejection letters – training contract competition is higher than ever. Do all you can to stay ahead of the competition and avoid falling at the final hurdle!
