Ding-ding, times are a-changing. The Pupillage Gateway, which is the online application system for pupillage, is to be brought forward from April to January. Consequently, offers will be received in May rather than August.
The Bar Council made the decision to change the opening time of the Gateway following research which involved BPTC (Bar Professional Training Course) students, chambers and pupils.
The hope is that the application process will clash less with exams, interviews and dissertation deadlines. Furthermore, it will allow candidates who are yet to embark upon the BPTC to know the outcome of the pupillage round before they commit financially to the course.

The Pupillage Gateway is managed by the Bar Council and allows chambers to advertise their various pupillages.
It provides a simple, centralised application system that designer to be fairer to applicants and more convenient for employers; it is a useful resource, aiding chambers to manage the high volume of applications and allowing candidates to tailor their applications to individual chambers.
