Training Contract
As a trainee at Covington you will have early responsibility and exposure. Working within small teams and playing a significant role in complex substantive work, Covington’s trainees work closely with senior lawyers and partners, and have a chance to make a real impact on work that matters.
The firm offers trainees the opportunity to work on complex projects for clients such as Microsoft, AstraZeneca and Meta, and engage in cutting-edge pro bono matters. Covington have advised pharmaceutical manufacturers on purchase and distribution agreements relating to manufacture and supply of COVID-19 vaccines, acted for ACWA Power in relation to the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism project in Saudi Arabia, and represented Ukraine against the Russian Federation at the International Court of Justice.
Covington’s winter and summer vacation schemes are a great way for students to get a ‘taster’ of the firm and decide if a career at Covington is for them. The firm’s vacation schemes provide an opportunity to become integrated into the firm and gain an insight into the work of a Covington lawyer.
Eligible applicants will be in their final year of a non-law degree or penultimate year of a law degree. Graduates and applicants further along their career path are also welcome to apply.

Winter Vacation Schemes
Covington's winter vacation schemes serve as an excellent method for students to gain an initial understanding of the firm and determine their alignment with a potential career at Covington. These vacation schemes give participants the chance to integrate themselves within the firm and acquire valuable insights into the roles undertaken by Covington lawyers.
Summer Vacation Schemes
Similar to the winter scheme, Covington's summer vacation schemes present an ideal opportunity for students to explore the firm and assess if a future career at Covington suits them. These schemes allow for complete immersion into the firm's environment and a comprehensive understanding of the roles performed by Covington's legal professionals.
Covington's summer and winter vacation schemes are suitable for those in their last stages of a non-law degree or the second-to-last year of a law degree. Graduates and those who have progressed further along their career trajectory are also encouraged to participate by submitting their applications.
Mentoring Programme

Our CovInsights programme is aimed at first year law students and second year non-law students who are still researching their legal careers.
This two day interactive programme provides a valuable insight into the firm, its practice areas, and the skills you will need to develop to become a successful lawyer. The programme is the perfect opportunity for candidates who are not yet eligible to apply for our vacation schemes.
