The AllAboutLaw Perspective
As a trainee at Covington, you’ll benefit from a close-knit, supportive culture. Despite the fact that you’ll be working at a large, international firm, you won’t feel like a cog in a wheel, you’ll feel like part of the team. It’s this environment that has led many senior lawyers to stay at the firm for their entire careers.
If you choose to complete your training contract at Covington, you’ll benefit from responsibility early on. Although this can sound daunting, you’ll be nurtured and supported by senior lawyers, with all trainees being allocated to an associate mentor and a trainee buddy. Trainees even get the chance to work on complex cases, with Covington boasting AstraZeneca and Microsoft as just two of their high-profile clients.
In addition to their for-profit work, Covington are passionate about public service and supporting those in need. Much of their pro bono work is focused on meeting local needs, supporting disadvantaged individuals and communities. The firm has long collaborated with Kids in Need of Defence (KIND). Alongside representatives from the charity, Covington has assisted many undocumented and vulnerable children exercise their right to remain in the UK. Their pro bono work also focuses on the environment, with the Covington representing a variety of environmentally-focused organisations, offering their lawyers a chance to promote environmental sustainability across the world.
All trainees complete a transaction and contentious seat and choose two further seats in practice areas such as employment, technology, life sciences or project development. There’s even the option to do a client secondment or an international secondment in Brussels or Dubai. When not working, trainees play an active role in internal diversity networks, the firm’s sports teams and social events.
