How do you end a personal statement for law school?

Writing anything can be a daunting experience for many and a personal statement is no exception. Often the hardest thing about writing is the end. When do you stop? How do you stop? Does your ending lack something? The list of questions could go on. So, how do you end your personal statement for law school?

Your Personal Statement

There are certain things you need to put into your personal statement. You want to paint a vivid picture to the reader of who you are as an individual, what you stand for, what fascinates you, what sets you apart from other applicants.

It is an opportunity to shine both within the realm of law and outside of it. An opportunity to show the reader that you are not a number on the list of applicants, you are an interesting individual with a lot to offer.

The End

Once you have written the bulk of your personal statement and you are approaching the end, ask yourself two questions: what are the main points of my statement? What do I want the reader to remember above everything else?

The Main Points

In your closing remarks to your personal statement there is one thing you need to consider. You need to round up everything that has come before in an interesting and succinct manner. Remind the reader of everything they have just read, jog their memory a little.

In doing so, try to reinstate your passion for law and your interests both within it and outside of it.

Be Impactful

When putting the entire statement together write specifically with the reader in mind, but do this especially at the end.

Perhaps it might be helpful to put yourself in their shoes. Imagine that you were the one reading applications, you’re going through piles of them. Now, what makes that one application stand out amongst the rest?

Remember, you still need to be relevant and professional. Don’t suddenly go into a written out stand-up routine, or start talking about something completely irrelevant topic. Instead, think long and hard about how you can make your statement memorable.

The End, Again

Of course, there is no right or wrong way to end your personal statement for law school and it is hard to even know a good way of doing this without the rest of the statement already in place. Instead, try to fulfil these guidelines:

- Summarise your points

- Restate your passions and interests

- Catch their attention

- Leave a lasting memory

If you can do these things whilst staying on topic then you are almost certain to have a good, if not great, personal statement.
