The first-ever SQE1 exam results were released on 20 January 2022 and only 53% of candidates passed. You might be surprised to hear that about half of those that took the £1,588 exam failed, which equates to around £800,000 in wasted exam fees.
There are two parts to SQE1: there is Functional Legal Knowledge 1 (FLK) and Functional Legal Knowledge 2. If you pass both parts of the exam you are able to go on and book your SQE2 exam.

It’s clear that the SQE1 assessments aren’t a walk in the park and, as results are based on the particular cohort that takes the exam with you, we can expect future results to be similar. It also probably means that an SQE1 Preparation Course is a necessity.
There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that you can resit the exam, the bad news is that you'll need to pay again. You can pay to sit just FLK 1 or FLK 2 if you only failed one part, but if you failed both, you’ll need to pay for them both.
Each FLK exam is £779 or it’s £1,588 for both.
The best way to see what it might be like is to try an SQE1 Preparation Course Taster.
We have created an SQE1 Preparation Course Taster to give you an idea of what the exam might be like and you can also see how e-learning and lectures will improve your ability to pass the exam.
It is free to use and you can access it here.
