Understandably, you'll need to complete SQE1 before SQE2, but how and when should you fit in the other elements of the SQE?
One of the benefits of the SQE system is that it is more flexible, so you can do two years of work experience at any legal enterprise. Examples include: a placement at a law firm, pro bono work, or previous paralegal experience. The only caveat is that it must be signed off by a qualified solicitor and be done at no more than four different companies.
You can do your QWE before, during or after the SQE1, or even after the SQE2. It’s advised that you don’t do your work experience while studying for the SQE1, as you will get distracted and struggle with managing your time. Some think that it’s better to do it before the exam, as you may learn valuable skills while working. There are no rules, and it all depends on your personal preferences.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has introduced a phased approach to enabling students to complete the SQE in Welsh, with students now being able to answer the SQE2 in Welsh. After September 1, 2024, the SQE1 will have questions available in Welsh, as well as the option to write your answers in the language.
After you have passed SQE1, you may wish to start your QWE. Otherwise, you can start preparing for the next set of exams, SQE2. Once you have passed SQE2 and have completed your QWE, you will be able to apply to the roll of solicitors and become a qualified solicitor.
