A career at Penningtons Manches Cooper ensures you’ll receive stellar career opportunities from experts in the field, but this won’t come at the expense of a work-life balance. The firm even has a sports and social committee which organises regular outings, such as summer barbecues and trips to the theatre, so you can get to know your colleagues in a relaxed environment.
Trainees have the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of seats, with options depending on which office you are located in. No matter where you are, the options available to you will be in the firm’s core practice areas of business services, dispute resolution, real estate and private individuals. Each seat will last six months, and you’ll receive support from senior staff at every step of the way. The firm’s non-hierarchical structure means all senior lawyers and partners are very approachable and understand that being a trainee involves a learning curve.
Pennington Manches Cooper believe that their best workforce is a diverse one, and have put in place numerous initiatives to ensure the recruitment, promotion and retention of their minority staff. The firm holds themselves accountable by publishing their diversity statistics and gender pay gap report. Their EMpower programme provides opportunities for student networking and application advice, open to all first-year law students and penultimate-year non-law students, targeting students from minority backgrounds, aiming to increase their representation in the legal field. The firm is also hugely committed to ensuring the mental well-being of its staff and has recruited and trained over 30 mental health first aiders and champions.
The firm is seeking dedicated, diverse candidates with a good academic record and strong commercial awareness. Applicants should be passionate about law, good at working in a team and great at communicating. While Penningtons requires a 2:1 at minimum, they also welcome applications from those who do not meet these requirements.
