Family law: Life, litigation and real-world client work
What is it really like to practise family law? In this session, the BPP team will interview a panel of practising family lawyers to explore the realities of working in this challenging and deeply human area of practice. The discussion will cover the nature of the work, the skills required to succeed and the personal qualities that are particularly important when advising clients through significant life events. Students will gain a clearer understanding of the day-to-day experience of family lawyers and the routes into this rewarding specialism.

Diversity at Ashfords
Ashfords are passionate about eliminating discrimination and promoting equality and diversity in their policies, practices and procedures. The firm has taken steps to ensure that they recruit from the widest possible pool of candidates, by ensuring that job adverts do not disproportionately exclude certain groups, and not recruiting new employees based solely on the recommendation of a current employee. Ashford’s firm’s diversity statistics and equality & diversity policy are easily available online, meaning applicants can be confident they’re applying to an inclusive, supportive workforce.
In addition to this, Ashfords are signatories to the Law Society’s Charter for Diversity & Inclusion and complete an annual self-assessment exercise, resulting in a regularly updated action plan. As part of the firm’s commitment to diversity, all employees are required to complete equality and diversity training. Ashfords even sponsor UWE Bristol’s Equity essay competition, a legal essay competition for BAME students.
