Family law: Life, litigation and real-world client work
What is it really like to practise family law? In this session, the BPP team will interview a panel of practising family lawyers to explore the realities of working in this challenging and deeply human area of practice. The discussion will cover the nature of the work, the skills required to succeed and the personal qualities that are particularly important when advising clients through significant life events. Students will gain a clearer understanding of the day-to-day experience of family lawyers and the routes into this rewarding specialism.

Bristows Application Process
Here is a step-by-step guide of the Bristows application process.
Stage one
The first step of the application is to complete an application form, which is then reviewed by the trainee recruitment team. Bristows recruits on a rolling basis, so you should submit your application as soon as possible. The firm does not do any psychometric testing and prefers to offer a series of interviews.
Stage two
The first one is a video interview, where you will have to answer a few questions within an allotted time frame. The next interview is with a partner and a senior associate. This one will be in person, and you will get a tour of the firm by current trainees. A further interview will take place with two partners from the trainee committee. There will also be a written exercise.
Tips
Some tips from Bristows for the video interview include: make sure your background is clear and not distracting, dress like the interview is in person, find somewhere quiet and focus on the camera rather than yourself. For the in-person interviews, make sure you arrive early and prepare some questions to ask the interviewers.
