Find the answers to all the questions you might have about Charles Russell Speechlys and the firm's early careers opportunities.
Do I need to complete a vacation scheme if I want to apply for a training contract?
No, we recruit from both the placement scheme and direct training contract route. A placement scheme is useful if you also want to gain some legal work experience as part of your application process but isn’t required.
How many trainees does the firm recruit each year?
There is no fixed number, but in 2020 the firm recruited 18 trainees in London, three in Cheltenham and five in Guilford.
When do applications open?
The online application form opens in October each year, and closes on January 31.
Where should I take the LPC?
You’ll undertake the new Solicitor’s Qualifying Exam (SQE) route, unless you have already started or completed the LPC at point of offer.
In order to support you through the SQE exams, we have partnered with the University of Law to provide comprehensive courses focused on SQE 1 and SQE2. Alongside studying for SQE 1 and SQE 2, our programme with The University of Law includes the SQE Plus Programme. You’ll chose modules from our CRS Elective list to study in more detail. This will prepare you well for practice at the firm by focusing on our areas of specialism, alongside developing practical legal skills. The SQE 1, SQE 2 and SQE Plus programme combines together so you’ll be studying for a Masters in Legal Practice (LLM).
I’m an international student. Will you sponsor me?
Yes, the firm welcomes applications from international students and provides successful applicants with visa sponsorship.
