One of the best things about pursuing a legal career is the amazing legal community you’re surrounded by. For the Top Lawfluencer 2023 series, AllAboutLaw are spotlighting some of our favourite content creators who contribute to the legal community. From sharing careers advice and application tips, to improving diversity, equity and inclusion in law, all of these creators are working to make the legal industry a better place.

Name: Bianca Stephanie Recasa
Why follow: Having recently completed the LLB and a master’s in IP and IT law, Bianca is now working as a commercial litigation paralegal in London. Bianca has consistently played an active role in the legal community, completing mini pupillages and standing as the Vice President of her undergraduate university’s bar society (where she hosted a Q&A with Baroness Hale!) Bianca is also interested in social mobility (as a first-generation student) and fashion, recently representing the Philippines in an International Beauty pageant!

Why follow: Alongside her work as a trainee solicitor at Clifford Chance, Lucy is the Chief Operating Officer of GROW Mentoring, an organisation working to improve social mobility in the law through one-to-one mentoring and events. Lucy’s interest in supporting aspiring lawyers is reflected in her Instagram account, where she shares the lessons she’s learnt as a trainee, how to stand out in training contract applications and accessible routes to law.

Why follow: Charlotte shares content about her legal journey; she’s an in-house legal executive and also studying the LPC part-time. She created her account to share her unique route to qualification, as a first-generation mature student and career changer. Charlotte’s account features detailed days in the life, commercial awareness updates for different sectors, and her wine and coffee recommendations.

Why follow: As Allen & Overy’s first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion global ambassador, Justin is incredibly passionate about diversity and social impact. Justin shares regular updates on the initiatives he’s implementing as part of this role, which he somehow manages to balance with his role as Founder and CEO of Grow Mentoring. Follow Justin to hear about social mobility in law, his new podcast Voices for Change, and his advice for other LGBTQ+ lawyers.

Why follow: Tiffany is an immigration paralegal in London, and her Instagram showcases what life as a legal professional is like. She shares her inspiring work helping victims of human trafficking and families apply for asylum, but also shares the low moments and challenges she’s faced in her role. A GDL and LPC graduate, Tiffany also provides revision tips, commercial awareness updates, and her experience as a BAME Woman in law.

Why follow: Amelia’s account is a great resource to learn more about what it’s like being neurodiverse in the legal industry. A trainee solicitor at a Magic Circle firm, Amelia shares the highs and lows of being a neurodiverse lawyer. She’s also keen to create a community of neurodiverse lawyers, through her podcast The ND Lawyer and her WhatsApp groups for neurodiverse people in the same stage of their legal careers.

Why follow: It’s hard to know where to begin when discussing the work Rob does for the legal community. Rob is the founder and managing director of KC Partners, a legal recruitment firm with a market-leading retention rate of 99%. He’s also the host of the Legally Speaking Podcast, which provides career advice and inspiration for legal professions, and is ranked in the top 1% of podcasts worldwide. Rob also co-founded the Legally Speaking Club, which helps law firms reach wider audiences through short-form video content.

Name: Sophie Pender
Why follow: Growing up in a low-income family and living in council housing, many people discouraged Sophie from pursuing a law career. Nevertheless, she persisted, and is now a corporate solicitor. The challenges Sophie faced in her legal journey lead her to found The 93% club, a non-profit which works to improve career outcomes for state school students. Through this work, Sophie has delivered a TedTalk, hosted a BBC documentary, and is even a trustee for the Mayor's Fund for London, a charity which she credits with encouraging her to become a lawyer.
