Training Contract
We offer training contracts in our London, Belfast, Cardiff and Manchester offices.
At Lewis Silkin, we require all trainees to complete the entire two-year training contract, composed of 4 seat rotations, spending six months in each area. This allows you to gain as much experience as possible, and helps you decide which area of law you might like to qualify into at the end of your training contract.
At Lewis Silkin we have eight seat options: (1) Corporate, (2) Data, (3) Digital, Commerce, and Creative, (4) Dispute Resolution, (5) Employment, (6) Immigration, (7) Intellectual Property Disputes, and (8) Real Estate.
Sometimes there may also be the opportunity to go on a Client Secondment for 3 – 6 months, where you’ll work in-house on a placement to a client’s legal team. For more on Secondments please see our blog here.
You will also have to do one contentious seat throughout the period of your training contract. You’ll have the choice of either Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property Disputes, or Employment (within the Employment, Litigation, and Financial Services sub-team).
Further information about the seat rotation process can be found here: https://www.lewissilkin.com/insights/2023/05/16/seat-rotations
When and how to apply
You’ll need to apply through our online application form via Candid. The deadline to apply is 14 January 2026. Further information is available on our website and social media channels.
Solicitor Apprenticeship
Lewis Silkin's six-year solicitor apprenticeship programme provides you with an excellent opportunity to gain legal experience, working alongside lawyers who are specialists in their field.
As an apprentice at Lewis Silkin, you’ll spend four days a week with us, and one day a week studying with your apprenticeship education provider. By the end of the apprenticeship you’ll have earned your Law LLB University degree, gained six years of experience, and be a fully qualified solicitor through the SQE route.
Their apprentices complete six years of training across, rotating through a wide range of legal practice groups. For the first four years, apprentices will spend time in the following teams:
- Immigration (two years)
- Employment / Legal Tech (one year each)*
*If you work in Employment for your third year, you will work in Legal Tech for your fourth year and vice versa.
In the last two years of the programme, apprentices will join the trainee seat rotation in which they'll spend time in four, six-month seats, choosing from the following:
- Digital, Commerce & Creative
- Corporate
- Data & Privacy
- Dispute Resolution
- Employment
- Immigration*
- IP Disputes
- Real Estate*
*These seats are available on an adhoc basis.
Once they hit their third year of the programme, Lewis Silkin's apprentices are also able to spend six months in one of their client’s in-house legal departments. This allows you the chance to improve your commerciality, build your legal expertise and hone your people skills. You’ll get to learn your client from the inside, giving you a well-rounded view of the legal profession.
All apprentices are supported by a dedicated supervisor who will help you manage you workload, further your professional development and offer support throughout the apprenticeship. as well as having regular catch ups with our apprentice supervising partner and early careers team. In addition to being part of a supportive team, our apprentices have a network of mentors and buddies to turn to for advice, guidance, friendship and support.
Upon qualification, you’ll be able to apply for any vacancies on offer.
Once you qualify, your personal and professional development remain a priority at the firm. Lewis Silkin will continue to provide training and support throughout your career, starting with their foundational NQ workshop.
Lewis Silkin recruits apprentices on a bi-annual basis. Applications for our September 2026 intake will open on 1 October 2025. The apprenticeships will be available in our London office.
