Family law: Life, litigation and real-world client work
What is it really like to practise family law? In this session, the BPP team will interview a panel of practising family lawyers to explore the realities of working in this challenging and deeply human area of practice. The discussion will cover the nature of the work, the skills required to succeed and the personal qualities that are particularly important when advising clients through significant life events. Students will gain a clearer understanding of the day-to-day experience of family lawyers and the routes into this rewarding specialism.

Pro bono Initiatives
Milbank was among the first law firms to have a partner solely devoted to its pro bono practice.
Every lawyer is required to complete a minimum of 25 pro bono hours annually. In 2024, Milbank’s London office provided 5000 pro bono hours and was named “TrustLaw’s 2024 International Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year”.
Milbank’s London office works closely with three legal pro bono programs (namely Advocates for International Development (A4ID), TrustLaw and LawWorks), and has recently got involved with Safe Passage International’s (SPI) Sudan Project. Other partnerships include Amicus ALJ, which fights for those facing a death sentence in the United States, and School of Hard Knocks, which empowers individuals facing inequality to realise their potential via its school programmes and one-to-one mentoring.
