Family law: Life, litigation and real-world client work
What is it really like to practise family law? In this session, the BPP team will interview a panel of practising family lawyers to explore the realities of working in this challenging and deeply human area of practice. The discussion will cover the nature of the work, the skills required to succeed and the personal qualities that are particularly important when advising clients through significant life events. Students will gain a clearer understanding of the day-to-day experience of family lawyers and the routes into this rewarding specialism.

There are currently no live jobs for this employer
Training Contract
Withers offers 12 training contract positions every year and is currently recruiting for September 2027. The two-year training contract consists of four seats of six months' duration.
Each trainee is assigned a seat supervisor who will provide training, monitor performance and offer feedback. The vast majority of trainees stay with the firm after qualification and a third of current partners trained at Withers. The variety of seat choices available to trainees sets Withers apart from other firms; there are very few firms that can offer, on the one hand, private client and family experience and, on the other, banking, commercial, charities, IP, commercial property, commercial litigation, reputation management and more.
Vacation Scheme
The best way to get a feel for the firm and the type of work we do is to come and work with us for a fortnight on one of our vacation schemes. We offer two, one-week work placements in our London office.
We are proud of our vacation schemes as they offer a real insight into what it is like to work for a City law firm and most importantly you will gain first-hand experience of what it is like to work for Withers by experiencing some of our core practice areas - something which is difficult to glean from a website.
Candidates on the vacation scheme receive £500 per week and benefit from free meals and snacks in the firm's café.
