The AllAboutLaw Perspective
Brabners is a purpose-led independent law firm with offices in Lancashire, Leeds, Liverpool, and Manchester. The firm has been supporting clients for over 200 years, delivering a full range of legal services underpinned by its values of ‘ambition, empathy, and integrity’. As an independent firm, Brabners has the freedom to shape their own vision, focusing beyond financial metrics by going the extra mile to achieve exceptional outcomes for its clients.
As the recipient of the ‘Best Law Firm to Work For’ award in 2023, Brabners offers an outstanding training contract. Working across four six-month seats, you will gain experience in a variety of the firm’s practice areas, such as Banking and Finance, Family Law or Real Estate. With the firm recognising the value of people as the heart of their success, Brabners prioritise support for their trainees. Through independent training supervision and a dedicated early careers team, your growth and well-being will be effectively supported throughout your training contract. Utilising a preference-based seat allocation method, Brabners ensures your training contract aligns with your future career aspirations, facilitating your successful development as a lawyer.
Brabners is keenly aware of their impact beyond the office. As the largest UK law firm and the first outside of London to become B Corp certified, working at Brabners guarantees that you become part of a firm prioritising social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. This inspiring commitment is reflected in the firm’s sustainability initiatives, with employees engaging in regular volunteer days at Kingsdale Head farm as part of a wider firm commitment to restore over 400 hectares of peatland to reduce carbon levels.

Diversity interests
Strength lies in differences, not in similarities. When it comes to equality, diversity and inclusion, Brabners believe in continuous improvement.
To address challenges, Brabners have set up the Together Action Group, comprising of five affinity groups. These groups work together to shape equality, diversity and inclusion strategies that all colleagues can be proud of. With over a fifth of people at the firm being part of the group, Brabners ensures colleague voices are heard throughout the firm, at all levels.
In September 2023 the firm celebrated the first full year of The Maurice Watkins Bursary, in partnership with We Love MCR. This initiative invites 15-22 year olds to apply for grant funding to help cover the cost of essential items including laptops and books for studying, travel costs for internships and clothing for interviews. The firm has already made awards of more than £10,000 to support those pursuing or considering a career in law.
Brabners utilises contextual recruitment when hiring early talent, which upweights the academic performance of those from disadvantaged backgrounds; this highlights the focus on hiring for potential, not grades received.
The firms programmes, such as the vacation scheme, are also open to all: showcasing the firms commitment to widening access to the industry.
