Harbottle & Lewis Diversity

Find out more about how Harbottle & Lewis are committed to diversity within their firm.

Harbottle & Lewis is committed to ensuring that their employees are diverse and reflect the clients they serve. They recognise the importance of having different perspectives, cultures, backgrounds and experiences and creating an inclusive environment. The firm is stronger when they have diversity as it allows them to better understand client needs and provide innovative solutions.

The firm’s Diversity committee meet on a monthly basis and have made great efforts at increasing diversity at the graduate level, as well as more generally reinforcing the importance of an inclusive culture across the firm.

Aspiring Solicitors

Harbottle & Lewis are proud to have worked in partnership with Aspiring Solicitors since 2018. Aspiring Solicitors is an organisation that works with law firms to increase diversity in the legal professional through mentoring, employability assistance, competitions and events. In 2021, 100% of the trainees we recruited were members of Aspiring Solicitors and in 2022 this figure was 67%.

Rare

Harbottle & Lewis are delighted to partner with Rare. Their contextual recruitment system helps identify exceptional people from disadvantaged backgrounds and provides market-leading benchmarking, improving social mobility within the firm.

Diversity, Equality & Inclusion networking groups

The firm has a number of Diversity, Equality & Inclusion (DE&I) networking groups, which include LGBTQ+ & Allies, Sex & Gender Equality and Social Mobility. These networks actively raise awareness throughout the Firm by way of knowledge sharing, events and taking a collaborative approach to the review and introduction of firmwide practices and procedures.

Some of the events run by the DE&I networks include a talk by Global Butterflies which is an organisation that brings better awareness to the business sector about the trans and non-binary community; a session on Gendered Ageism during International Women’s Week and an introduction to the London-based charity, Women@theWell who provide a uniquely holistic and multifaceted range of service to vulnerable women who are caught in multiple cycles of abuse and social exclusion.
