Family law: Life, litigation and real-world client work
What is it really like to practise family law? In this session, the BPP team will interview a panel of practising family lawyers to explore the realities of working in this challenging and deeply human area of practice. The discussion will cover the nature of the work, the skills required to succeed and the personal qualities that are particularly important when advising clients through significant life events. Students will gain a clearer understanding of the day-to-day experience of family lawyers and the routes into this rewarding specialism.

Jones Day Application Process
Jones Day’s application process is centred on getting to know you as an individual without any unnecessary artificial hurdles.
Stage 1
Complete an online application form and candidate statement. This sets out your academics, work experience and outside interests. The candidate statement is your opportunity to tell the firm why you are interested in a legal career, specifically at Jones Day.
Stage 2
If successful following an academic reference, the firm will invite you for an online interview with two senior lawyers. This is an opportunity for you to express your genuine interest in a legal career, why you believe Jones Day is the Firm for you and more generally your interests and motivations. Jones Day interviewers are keen to hear all about you. You will also have the opportunity to have a chat with a trainee beforehand.
Stage 3
If you pass the interview stage, you will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre at our London office. Your suitability for a Vacation Scheme position will be assessed through a group exercise and a one- to-one discussion with senior lawyers. Light refreshments and the opportunity to meet our current trainees will also be available.
